Rob Skane has built his career on stages across Albany, NY, and surrounding areas, where observers have noted parallels to the early Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello in the force of his lyrics and their presentation. The year 1994 brought his first solo acoustic recording, Throwing It All Back Up, which appeared only on cassette. After working the club circuit and coffeehouse venues, Skane issued his debut full-length album, Nowheresville, in 1997; the record drew praise for its unadorned style and songcraft. At the same time he played with Albany-based outfits including Dugans and the Lawn Sausages. SelfNoise, his second album, arrived in 2002. Skane describes his music as "garagefolkrocknroll" and has been labeled the Ace Frehley of Albany by fellow musicians. He also appears regularly at musical conferences and singer/songwriter sessions.
