Biography
English singer/songwriter Robbie Patton launched his career through a 1979 stint as special guest on tour with Fleetwood Mac, then riding one of the strongest waves of popularity in contemporary music. The connection yielded further gains when Patton issued his 1981 album Distant Shores. Christine McVie not only produced the set but also contributed keyboards, while Lindsey Buckingham supplied guitar on the track “Don’t Give It Up.” Although the album itself stalled in the lower regions of the chart, the single “Don’t Give It Up” reached the Top 30 by late summer. Patton’s next project, Orders From Headquarters, appeared the following year and again featured McVie’s production; Stevie Nicks joined him for a duet vocal on the single “Smiling Islands.” Neither the album nor the single matched prior commercial results, and Orders From Headquarters failed to chart at all. Success arrived indirectly when Fleetwood Mac included the Patton-McVie composition “Hold Me” on their Mirage album. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Patton continued placing original material on recordings by Jonathan Cain and Santana.
