Biography
Robert Carr and Johnny Mitchell, a Bronx pair best known for the 1958 Top 40 hit “We Belong Together,” a graceful harmony ballad, issued roughly a dozen singles on the Old Town imprint between the late 1950s and early 1960s, yet none approached that song’s commercial reach. Among one-hit doo-wop acts they nonetheless stood apart. Nearly everything they recorded was self-penned, and their tightly blended vocals displayed an engaging contrast—one voice smoky, the other distinctly nasal. They also roamed beyond the usual stylistic boundaries of the form, handling brisk, blues-tinged numbers with the same assurance they brought to slower material.
