Biography
Prior to establishing his professional music career, Robert Fox taught drama and art at British schools. His engagement with composition deepened after he obtained a Roland D50 synthesizer and scored a 1987 youth staging of A Midsummer's Night Dream. Four years later came his debut album Asfafa, later reissued in 2000. The 1990s yielded four further solo albums, among them The Fire and the Rose, drawn from T.S. Eliot's The Four Quartets, plus two Code Indigo releases—1995's For Whom the Bell and 1999's Uforia—created with David Wright.
Fox opened the new century with Talking Heads, his sixth studio album, and Blue, a four-disc collaboration with Wright. Over the ensuing decade he sustained a steady pace of solo releases, among them Underworld in 2003, Maya in 2005, and Evergreen in 2008, while Code Indigo produced two studio albums and a 2007 concert recording. Entering the third decade of his work, he continued combining gentle piano, dramatic synths, and percussion on Short Stories in 2011, Still Waters in 2013, and Asfafa 2 in 2014, a sequel to his first album. After leaving Code Indigo in 2010 to concentrate on solo projects and teaching, he rejoined the group for its eighth album, 2014's Take the Money & Run. He resumed solo activity in 2017 with Cathedral, an ambient recording divided into two extended tracks.
