Born in Portland, Oregon, Robert Hall Lewis makes his home in Baltimore, where he serves on the faculties of Goucher College and the Peabody Institute while holding the post of Artistic Director with the Chamber Music Society of Baltimore. He enjoys recognition both for his large-scale symphonic compositions and for his accomplished performances on jazz and classical trumpet as well as piano. A former pupil of Pierre Monteux, he has built a conducting career that includes appearances with leading orchestras across Europe and America. His principal composition mentors were Nadia Boulanger and Hans Erich Apostel.
