Biography
Born on 14 January 1915 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, Jeffery died on 20 July 1976 in San Diego, California, USA. Drawing inspiration from Blind Lemon Jefferson, he performed as both a blues guitarist and a pianist. In his youth he traveled with a carnival, charming snakes and boxing anyone willing to step into the ring. During the Depression he relocated to California with the rest of the Okies, earning a living as a car mechanic while spending weekends at the piano, frequently in a club owned by Thomas Shaw. Following retirement he appeared at festivals and cut piano recordings during the 70s, remaining a capable guitarist even as he maintained that he had abandoned the instrument.
