Biography
Roberta Mameli, a soprano born in Rome, has established herself as a regular presence on stages presenting Baroque and Classical opera both throughout Italy and across other parts of Europe. She often works alongside Italian groups specializing in early music, participates in numerous festivals, and contributes to recordings of significant choral works. What stands out in her professional path is the extent of her engagement with obscure repertoire that she has studied, presented, and committed to disc. Early on, she developed an interest in singing, pursuing vocal training at the Nicolini Conservatory in Piacenza while also studying violin at the Scuola Civica di Cremona, from which she earned degrees at both schools. To complete her preparation, she took part in master classes led by Enzo Dara, Claudio Desderi, Ugo Benelli, Bernadette Manco di Nissa, and Konrad Richter. Her first appearance came soon afterward at the Opera Theatre in Alessandria, Italy, where she portrayed Mercury in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. From that point forward, although her focus has leaned toward works spanning the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, it has not been limited to that era alone. Throughout Europe, she has performed both operatic and choral pieces alongside prominent historically informed ensembles such as the Accademia Bizantina, La Venexiana—on whose programs all three of Monteverdi's operas have appeared—Modo Antiquo, Europa Galante, the Akademie für alte Musik, Cappella Mediterranea, Europea Galante, Le Concert des Nations, where under Jordi Savall she took part in Vivaldi's rarely heard Teuzzone, Cappella Cracoviensis, and Il Complesso Barocco, in whose production of Vivaldi's Catone in Utica, directed by Alan Curtis, she participated. That particular production found release on France's Naïve label. Her discography encompasses numerous vocal projects, among them a notable reconstruction with La Venexiana of Luzzasco Luzzaschi's Concerto delle Dame from the late sixteenth century. She has contributed regularly as an ensemble member to that ensemble's releases, one of which was their 2010 venture titled 'Round M: Monteverdi Meets Jazz. During 2018 she delivered the soprano lines in Francesco Feo's 1734 oratorio San Francesco de Sales, joining the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra led by Fabio Biondi.
