Biography
A native of Pennsylvania, the versatile Robin Eaton emerged from a household steeped in music and himself commands a range of instruments sufficient to outfit an entire ensemble. Functioning equally as producer, recording engineer, and mixer, he steps in on any needed part, whether guitar lines, bass grooves, or the sinuous tones of a sitar. His relocation from Pennsylvania to Nashville follows a clear artistic impulse, and the city’s own history supplies context: during the peak of pop’s fascination with Indian modalities in the 1960s and 1970s, session players there featured the sitar on numerous chart successes.
In 2005 Eaton co-produced the first album by the Spinto Band, whose lineup included his nephew Jon Eaton handling guitar and lead vocals. His sibling Andy Eaton, another Pennsylvania-based musician, performed vocals with the Sin City combo. Eaton’s longest-running partnership outside the family circle has been with vocalist Jill Sobule, yielding numerous co-written songs, the most widely recognized being “I Kissed a Girl.” He has also overseen recording sessions in Nashville for Tim Easton and Tommy Womack.
