R.O.C.

Although the electronic trio R.O.C. came together in London during 1983, the group remained largely obscure for more than ten years while writer and programmer Patrick Nicholson—who had launched the project with guitarist Fred Browning—devoted his energies to promoting British artists on tours across Eastern Europe. Recognition arrived only after Colorado-born vocalist Karen Sheridan joined in 1993, at which point R.O.C., a name once thought to stand for Reincarnation of Christ, finally coalesced by releasing five independent singles that secured a contract with the Setanta label. Following the appearance of their debut LP in the first half of 1996, the band shifted to Virgin, whose reissue of the album appeared before the year ended.
