Biography
Rocketnumbernine draws its title from a Sun Ra composition and serves as the vehicle for brothers Ben and Tom Page, whose music fuses jazz, electronic textures, and drone into a flexible yet persistently energetic style. The siblings, previously active in groups such as Rothko and the Sleeping Years, began exchanging improvised material in the mid-2000s and issued their debut full-length, You Reflect Me, in 2008. Shifting toward tighter arrangements, they connected with Kieran Hebden of Four Tet through drummer Steve Reid in 2010; the resulting partnership produced a live set with Four Tet at that year’s Mutek Festival and the 14-minute single Matthew and Toby, which appeared on Hebden’s Text imprint. In 2011 the Pages joined Radiohead on tour and put out the Lone Raver 12" via Soul Jazz. Early the next year they returned to Hebden for the expansive single Roseland/Metropolis, produced by Floating Points. During the same period they shared stages with Neneh Cherry across multiple concerts, and in July 2013 Smalltown Supersound released their second album, MeYouWeYou.
