Born in the USA, Brown has earned acclaim as a songwriter with notable activity centered in Nashville, Tennessee. His work with Clay Blaker yielded multiple compositions, one of which is ‘We Must Be Loving Right’, recorded by George Strait and Barbra Streisand. He partnered with Luke Reed on ‘If You Mess With The Bull’, with Billy Yates on ‘Me, Marie’, and with Tommy Connors on ‘Git It’. The last of these appeared in the score for the Broadway musical Urban Cowboy (2003), a production limited to 60 performances that nonetheless received a Tony Award for Best Original Score. Brown is further credited with ‘I’ve Had It With You’ and ‘Say What’s On Your Mind’.
