Biography
Ron Affif, nephew of the guitarist Ron Anthony whose sideman credits include work alongside George Shearing and Frank Sinatra, took his initial guitar lesson from his uncle at age twelve. Upon finishing high school he relocated to Los Angeles in 1984, where he performed alongside Dick Berk, Dave Pike, Pete Christlieb, and Jack Sheldon while also cutting a quartet session for the R.A. Records imprint in 1987. Two years afterward he settled in New York, focusing thereafter primarily on leading his own groups. A strong bop-rooted guitarist whose approach reflects some influence from Joe Pass and George Benson—both of whom appreciated his playing—Affif has produced several striking albums for Pablo.
