Biography
John Ross and Rob Fitzpatrick, operating as breakbeat trainspotters and reflexive sample merchants, launched the duo Ronnie & Clyde. Following roughly a year of studio sessions, the pair intensified their sampler work and forwarded the material to Swim Recordings. Although that imprint was chiefly associated with post-acid theorists instead of rude-boy inheritors, label-head Colin Newman responded positively and authorized release of the act’s debut single “The Last Hand” in 1996. After contributing to the Leaf compilation Invisible Soundtracks, Ross and Fitzpatrick issued another single in 1997 and then unveiled their first album, In Glorious Black and Blue.
