Biography
Among non-Japanese authorities on the shakuhachi bamboo flute, Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin stands as one of the foremost. Having played the instrument for over twenty-five years, he directs the largest shakuhachi dojo, or instructional facility, beyond Japan and has issued more than ten solo recordings, even if several have since gone out of print. Most of those recordings center on his command of the traditional, meditative shakuhachi repertoire. Several of his strongest statements appeared on the Lyrichord imprint, notably 1997’s Ichi on Buttsu: Zen Meditation Music and 1998’s Makoto: Shinjitsu (With a Heart of True Sincerity). He later taped Komuso: The Healing Art of Zen for the Relaxation Company, after which Earth Healing arrived in spring 2000.
