Biography
Rook Monroe crafts genre-blending pop that merges retro-soul textures with present-day sensibilities. He first earned notice as a songwriter, supplying Rihanna’s 2016 dance hit “Desperado” plus tracks for the Chainsmokers and Jeremih. In 2020 he stepped forward as a performer with the EP Californialand, a project that spotlights his falsetto and shape-shifting, funky pop while teaming him with Trackside and Brendan O’Brien.
Born Krystin Watkins, he entered professional songwriting in the mid-2010s. One early credit was co-writing “Desperado,” a pivotal song on Rihanna’s acclaimed Anti album released in 2016. In the ensuing years he turned toward issuing his own recordings. The first single, “Jolie,” surfaced in early 2020; “Pink and Purple” and “Honey” arrived soon after, and all three tracks appear on the mini-LP Californialand.
