Biography
In 1963 the Scottish folk duo Rory and Alex McEwen joined the briefly married American pair Carolyn Hester and Richard Fariña for a solitary recording session. Their effort produced the four-song EP Four for Fun, released solely in Scotland and credited under the ungainly heading Rory and Alex McEwen, Carolyne and Dick Fariña. Although Carolyn Hester never performed under a married surname and her given name appears misspelled on the jacket, the disc remains an uncommon artifact. Its performances prove unremarkable, offering standard readings of traditional folk songs that at times favor a British Isles accent. Hester assumes lead vocals on several tracks, yet Richard Fariña’s vocal and instrumental presence stays minimal.
