Biography
Alton first saw the light of day in 1943 on Dominica, the scenic Caribbean island. After settling in England in 1961 he assembled the Entertainers, a five-piece calypso outfit. The musicians concentrated on regular live work from the outset and showed little interest in committing material to vinyl, although they did produce their debut recording in 1971. “Carnival Night” served as that initial single; the track and its follow-ups enjoyed modest returns, yet the group failed to register strongly on the charts. This prompted a 1973 session for Tackle Records in which they cut “Kung Fu International” under the name Roy & the Challengers.
