Biography
The Roy Kay Trio, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Roy "Kay" Konitzer, specializes in purist rockabilly strongly shaped by genre icons Johnny Burnette, Charlie Feathers, and Carl Perkins. Drums are absent from the lineup, allowing a subtler yet equally vigorous pulse to emerge from the exchange between lead guitarist Mike Geglia and upright bassist Robin Cady. Seattle serves as home base for the outfit, which issued its debut full-length CD, Wanderin' Mind, produced by Deke Dickerson, in 2002 on Lur Liner Records. Knockin' Em Back arrived in 2004. The trio followed with the Western swing-oriented Rock-A-Way Lonesome Moon in 2005. Konitzer resurfaced in 2008 via The Rhythm and Harmony of the Roy Kay Trio. The next year he brought in drums and special guests, enlarging the rockin' trio into the Roy Kay Combo for the 2009 album I'm Hooked.
