Originating in 2011, the power pop-punk group Rozwell Kid started out as the solo endeavor of West Virginia native Jordan Hudkins. While keeping time behind the kit for fellow West Virginians the Demon Beat, Hudkins launched into recording an album rooted in his affinity for '90s punk and post-grunge indie sounds. After inking a deal with Broken World Media for his first release, The Rozwell Kid LP, he recruited a complete lineup featuring guitarist Adam L. Meisterhans, bassist Devin Donnelly, and drummer Sean Hallock. Echoing the melodic, distortion-laden style of early Weezer, the ensemble followed up with two further albums on the same imprint—2013's Unmacho and 2014's Too Shabby—each successive effort more streamlined than its predecessor. Through ongoing road dates, festival slots, split singles, and EPs, the band's profile steadily expanded until it caught the eye of the respected California indie SideOneDummy, which brought them aboard in 2017. Their first project for the label and overall fourth album, Precious Art, arrived that June.
