Biography
Ruby Hunter's extraordinarily profound vocal timbre has elevated her among the foremost Indigenous vocalists from Australia. Although renowned primarily through joint projects alongside spouse Archie Roach, she carved out an independent presence via her striking initial release Thoughts Within from 1994. During an appearance at a gathering organized by the Research Center for Injury Studies at Flanders University, one observer, Craig Harris, noted how "the songs told stories about matters that are difficult and painful. They reminded us that behind the statistics, jargon and technical labels in our field (Self-harm, interpersonal violence and so on) are human anguish, physical suffering and courage".
