Born around 1972 in Laurel, Mississippi, Lovett entered the world to a teenage mother unable to raise her, resulting in adoption as an infant. Church performances with her adoptive family drew enough local notice that she cut the tracks “Me And Jesus” and “One Day At A Time” at eight. Songwriting began at ten; by thirteen she had assembled a band that played regular sets at the family store. While her mother nurtured these musical pursuits, she also steered Lovett toward radiography training as a practical safeguard. Regional bluegrass and gospel events soon featured her, and an appearance at the Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Festival in Meridian, Mississippi, brought her to the attention of Nashville-connected Jimmy Metts. He urged a brief leave from her day job so she could test her songwriting in the capital. Within a short time she was crafting material there, taking local stages and occasionally supporting established acts.

Her debut album appeared in 1997, highlighted by the self-penned “Look What Love Can Do,” a tribute to both her birth mother and her adoptive parents. Listeners seeking classic country sounds embraced the record, and Lovett built a loyal following through continued road work that included a European tour in 2000.
