Biography
Established in London during 1979, the blues rock outfit maintained its momentum and continued to draw crowds well into the new millennium. Chicago-born Johnny Mars stood among the founding lineup, though from 1985 onward he was periodically substituted by harmonica players Jeremy Truelove and Stevie Smith, with the latter remaining until the mid-2000s. Jim McCarty’s drum stool passed to Tony Fernandez in 1984, a role the latter held for over twenty years. Among the guitarists and bassists who passed through the ranks were Dave Blake from 1979 to 1981, Andy Herbert across 1991–96 and again from 1999 forward, John Knightsbridge until 1999, Paul McCallum through 1985, Peter Rees in 1991, Pete Stroud between 1996 and 1999, and Martyn Taylor in two stints from 1987 to 1991 and again from 1999 onward. Saxophonist John “Irish” Earle contributed from 1985 until 1997. Beyond regular appearances on London’s pub circuit, the group undertook sporadic international excursions to Germany, Norway, and the former USSR.
