Biography
Chicago-based producer Mike Meegan, working under the name RXM Reality, assembles frantic and jagged electronic pieces through a blend of hardware samplers and software. His initial recordings leaned heavily on techno and house frameworks while still erupting into passages of distorted chaos, whereas the 2019 album DEViL WORLD WiDE presented dystopian, post-industrial soundscapes shaped by IDM, grime, and footwork. With Advent in 2021 he steered toward more accessible and melodic territory, a direction continued on the vocal-driven sick for you in 2022 and No. 1 in the World in 2024.
Meegan launched the RXM Reality project in 2014 with a self-titled cassette issued by Pretty All Right. Further recordings followed on We Be Friends, among them 2017’s Saad Market. Over time the material moved away from danceable yet experimental constructions toward denser, glitch-heavy forms that channel fear, paranoia, and anxiety. Hausu Mountain released the aptly named Panic Cycle in 2018, then issued the still more punishing DEViL WORLD WiDE a year later. The 2020 set Blood blood blood blood pushed further into intricate and overpowering territory. Orange Milk brought out the comparatively melodic Advent in 2021, while WeWereFriends, somewhat mellower and centered on vocals, appeared on We Be Friends. The 2022 release sick for you extended this vocal emphasis, and No. 1 in the World arrived in 2024 as a more overtly breakcore-influenced work incorporating hyperpop elements.
