Safari Room

Safari Room is an indie rock outfit based in Nashville and fronted by singer/songwriter Alec Koukol, fusing luminous melodies, layered atmospheric guitars, and reflective lyrics. The project has issued a pair of studio albums to date: Look Me Up When You Get There in 2020 and Complex House Plants in 2022.

Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Koukol relocated to Nashville during the mid-2010s, where he shaped Safari Room into a solo endeavor by drawing on the city’s broad pool of musical collaborators. His 2018 EP Actual Feelings paved the way for the debut full-length Look Me Up When You Get There, whose intricate arrangements and considered songwriting evoked the National, Grizzly Bear, Death Cab for Cutie, and similarly textured indie groups. Koukol kept enlisting a rotating cast of Nashville players—warmly dubbed “the Village”—to capture the follow-up LP, which explores themes of human connection and appeared in May 2022.
