Biography
Born in Istanbul, Sahan Arzruni pursues a wide-ranging career as composer, ethnomusicologist, recording artist, writer, recitalist, and concert pianist. He produced a volume on the music of his homeland while still in his teens and has maintained an ongoing commitment to studying and integrating the musical traditions of his Armenian lineage. Among his recordings are Visionary Landscapes and a full anthology devoted to Armenian piano works. Command performances have placed him at the White House and before the British, Danish, and Swedish courts, while for five years he also presented a New York Municipal Broadcasting System series exploring the underlying principles of piano technique. Scholarly contributions to the Armenian Museum of Natural History, The New Grove Dictionary of Music, and the Dictionary of the Middle Ages further reflect the breadth of his professional activities.
