Originally a solo venture led by guitarist and songwriter Joe DiBiase, Said Sadly embodied his singular take on alternative pop through focused echoes of artful rock. Having played in several ensembles across his native Lehigh Valley, PA, in the early 1990s, DiBiase soon recognized that his compositions required a dedicated group to take shape. During 1995 he crossed paths with vocalist Mim DiBiase, whose voice matched the one he had long sought. Bassist Eric Shirk came aboard in 1999, at which point Said Sadly was officially established. Although obstacles arose from their unusual sonic signature, the trio lined up numerous live shows over the ensuing months and laid down their first demo recording in early 2000. Several months after that they released their debut album, The Past Is Tragedy.
