Established as a nonprofit initiative fusing music with visual and conceptual art, Saint Disruption traces its origins to polymath Jeff Firewalker Schmitt—whose roles encompass musician, scientist, educator, and curandero—jazz musician John Medeski, and music promoter and manager Aaron Kayce. The ensemble fuses jazz, hip-hop, funk, and psychedelia into a singular sound. Participants convene musicians, videographers, poets, artists, and thinkers to examine social, political, and spiritual questions of the twenty-first century. Working alongside Root Doctor Media, the project seeks to pioneer frameworks that draw on collective wisdom and self-organization while directing recording-arts technology toward constructive creative ends. Proceeds flow entirely to NGOs and additional nonprofit entities. The group’s first video single, “Choke a Man,” featuring vocals by Datrian Johnson, surfaced in February 2021; March brought “Instant Gratification,” which enlisted Johnson, Kimi Leger, and Debrissa McKinney. The full-length release A Rose in the Oblivion arrived the following month.
