Biography
Ryan DeRobertis, the electronic musician based in Long Island, New York, introduced the name Saint Pepsi in December 2012 chiefly as a random label for his initial experiments sampling and dismantling pop music elements. He soon refined a distinctive production method that earned him notable attention in underground scenes through the May 2013 album Hit Vibes and a series of widely circulated online remixes of unexpected chart tracks, among them Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Further internet-only material appeared in quick succession, with the single "Mr. Wonderful" standing out in early 2014. The accumulating interest prompted Carpark Records to sign Saint Pepsi that same year and schedule forthcoming albums along with live performances. Seeking to sidestep possible trademark conflicts with the soft-drink corporation, DeRobertis stated in early 2015 that he would thereafter record as Skylar Spence, the title of an earlier Saint Pepsi track drawn from Drew Barrymore's character in Woody Allen's 1996 musical film Everyone Says I Love You. His first Skylar Spence full-length, Prom King, appeared later in 2015.
