Groove Armada's Andy Cato once hailed SaintSaviour—real name Becky Jones—as the "performer of her generation," whose wide-ranging style as a singer and songwriter merges Maria Callas's operatic delivery with the indie-disco edge associated with Beth Ditto. From an early age she appeared alone on the working men's club circuit, initially hoping only to work as a session vocalist, yet a fellow musician's encouragement prompted her to begin composing original material. After serving as frontwoman for the RGBs, the Slips, and Joe & Will Ask, she issued her first single in 2008—a reinterpretation of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The following year a demo reached Groove Armada, whose members responded by asking her to co-write and record material for their Black Light album while also joining them onstage at Glastonbury and Lovebox as well as on their subsequent headline tour. Euphonios Records released her follow-up single, "Woman Scorned," in 2010.
