Biography
Saith Rhyfeddod brought together the musical traditions of Wales and Brittany through the voices of Julie Murphy, born in Essex, England and a fluent Welsh speaker, alongside multilingual Breton singer Brigitte Kloareg. Bagpipers Jonathan Shorland and Ceri Rhys Matthews provided accompaniment as the two vocalists produced a richly harmonious sound. The ensemble formed soon after Julie Murphy’s departure from the Albion Band, where she had been a member between 1990 and 1997. Murphy, recognized as one of England’s finest female vocalists, has maintained a notable presence following the group’s dissolution. Black Mountain Revisited, her first solo album, received recognition as Mojo Magazine’s Best Folk Album of 1999. Kloareg, esteemed as a folksong collector, ethnomusicologist, and choral director, maintains an active performing career alongside her daughter Katell.
