Biography
Sam Fonteyn, originally named Samuel Soden, came into the world in 1925 as an English composer whose greatest recognition arose from his exceptional body of work created for the Boosey & Hawkes Music Library. Working chiefly across the 1960s and 1970s, he produced memorable scores that later appeared in motion pictures and widely viewed television programs. The composition “Pop Looks Bach” gained particular fame through its placement in the BBC series Ski Sunday and ranks among the most cherished British television themes ever created. He also supplied the theme for the BBC sitcom Please Sir. In later years the piece “Galloping Gertie” found new life underscoring episodes of the animated series SpongeBob Squarepants, Ren & Stimpy, and Family Guy. Fonteyn died in 1991.
