Biography
American musician Sam Kulik entered the world in western Massachusetts before relocating to Ohio in 2000 for studies at Oberlin College. After settling in New York City in 2004, he rapidly integrated into the local improvisational music community through volunteer work at John Zorn's venue The Stone and joint efforts with experimental rock outfits like Skeletons and Parts & Labor. Although his main instrument remains the trombone, Kulik commands additional skills on tuba, bass, and electric guitar, applying them across projects that span folk, indie rock, classical, and free jazz. His 2012 release Escape from Society drew from the "song poem" tradition and showcased his talent for unconventional songwriting. Multiple sessions with the N.Y.C. improv prankster duo Talibam! feature his contributions, including co-credit on their 2011 album Discover AtlantASS and on Double Automatism, the 2015 project they shared with Japanese Fluxus-associated composer Yasunao Tone.
