Samite

Resembling Francis Bebey, singer and multi-instrumentalist Samite layers his own vocals together with an assortment of African and Western instruments through overdubbing, among them the sizable East African litungu lyre as well as finger piano and flutes. Traces of a light folk sensibility surface here and there, while his solo vocal delivery lacks power; nevertheless the resulting polyphonic vocal textures and the greater part of his instrumental contributions prove exquisite. ~ John Storm Roberts
