Biography
After relocating from Britain to Berlin in 2011, Samuel Kerridge partnered with his wife Hayley Kerridge to launch Contort, a weekly event series centered on experimental electronic music. Noisy abstract techno compositions marked his debut appearance on record via the Auris Interna EP for Horizontal Ground. An introduction to Karl O'Connor, aka Regis, produced three Downwards outings in 2013, among them the full-length A Fallen Empire. Blueprint, James Ruskin’s label, issued the Deficit of Wonder EP the following year. Kerridge converted Contort into a label in 2015 by releasing his second album, Always Offended Never Ashamed, which moved into more abstract areas than prior material, shifting focus from the dancefloor toward industrial origins through harsh guitars and distorted vocals. Contort followed later that year with the 7" single “Sonic Instruments of War.” He rejoined Downwards in early 2016 for the third album Fatal Light Attraction, then delivered the EP The Silence Between Us one year afterward.
