Established in 2008, the Mexican pop/rock group Sandoval draws its name from a former participant in the short-lived yet extremely successful duo Lu. Their first full-length recording reached stores in 2009 as Lo Que Siempre Soñamos Ser. The quartet consists of Mario Sandoval on guitar and vocals, Susy Ortiz handling vocals, Alejandro Vazquez on drums, and Enrique López on bass. Born October 29, 1977, in Guadalajara, Mexico, Mario Sandoval initially achieved prominence as one half of Lu, whose more widely recognized member, pop superstar Paty Cantú, pursued a solo career that year with the Top Five album Me Quedo Sola. Ahead of the 2007 split, Mario and Paty issued the albums Lu in 2003 and Álbum in 2006, both of which generated numerous hit singles and positioned the act as a fixture on MTV México. In the wake of the breakup, Mario—who had composed the majority of Lu’s material—gathered several friends to create Sandoval. The musicians signed with Warner Music, Lu’s prior label, and delivered their debut album Lo Que Siempre Soñamos Ser. The project reached the Top 20 on the Mexican albums chart and featured the hit single “A Quien Tú Decidiste Amar.”
