Emerging from a household steeped in music—where her father worked as a drummer and multiple relatives pursued professional careers—Sandra de Sá developed an early affinity for the instrument. As a self-taught violão player she quickly turned to composing, earning recognition at several school festivals. Her first contract with a record label arrived in 1977, after which Lecy Brandão included “Morenando” on one of her own releases. That same year “Demônio Colorido” appeared in TV Globo’s MPB 80 festival, propelling both the track and its creator into national view; the debut LP Sandra de Sá (RGE) followed shortly thereafter. Throughout the 1980s she scored notable successes performing songs such as “Vale Tudo” (Tim Maia), “Bye Bye Tristeza” (Marcos Valle/Carlos Colla), and “Enredo do Meu Samba” (Ivone Lara/Jorge Aragão), the last of which served as the theme for the Globo telenovela Partido Alto. Additional collaborations brought her into the studio with Djavan, Titãs, Billy Paul, Marina, Olodum, and others. In 2001 she took the stage at Rock in Rio III.
