Emerging from two decades of shared triumphs alongside her brother in the teen pop act Sandy e Junior, Brazilian vocalist Sandy launched her solo career with the 2010 album Manuscrito, which highlighted her command of MPB. Born Sandy Leah Lima on January 28, 1983, in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, she is the daughter of Xororó (born Durval de Lima) of the celebrated sertanejo duo Chitãozinho & Xororó. Her path began early through the partnership with sibling Junior Lima (born Durval de Lima, Jr., on April 11, 1984) as Sandy e Junior. The pair started performing in 1989 and issued their first full-length album, Aniversário do Tatu, in 1991. At their commercial zenith near the turn of the century, the multimedia duo scored massive sales with Era Uma Vez: Ao Vivo (1998), As Quatro Estações (1999), As Quatro Estações: O Show (2000), and Sandy e Junior (2001). After 15 albums plus two films and five seasons of their television series, the siblings concluded their work together in 2007 following a farewell tour and the release of Acústico MTV. Sandy then stepped away for several years before returning as a solo artist with Manuscrito in 2010. The Universal Music project climbed to Top Five on the Brazilian albums chart and introduced the singles “Pés Cansados” and “Sem Jeito.” Unlike her earlier output with Sandy e Junior, the album presents Sandy in a polished MPB mode, delivering her own material, much of it co-written with Lucas Lima.
