Biography
Santiago Salazar, an understated techno evangelist, launched his DJ career in the early 1990s by spinning records in East Los Angeles, California, where he was born. He made his way to Detroit, Michigan, in the early 2000s and connected with the city's revered Underground Resistance collective. While based in the Motor City, he contributed to UR's Los Hermanos and Galaxy 2 Galaxy. Upon returning to the West Coast in 2006, Salazar launched the labels Major People and Ican while co-founding Historia y Violencia alongside Juan Mendez, known as Silent Servant. After putting out multiple 12" releases, he delivered his debut album, Chicanismo, an unsurprisingly impressive and singular set of machine soul, on the Pittsburgh-based Love What You Feel label in 2015.
