Biography
An accomplished lutenist and composer of exceptional skill, Garsi pursued his studies in Rome. His growing renown soon prompted an invitation to Parma, where he joined the service of Duke Ranuccio I at the Farnese court. No fewer than forty-five compositions came from his pen, two of them for keyboard, although the bulk were conceived for the lute. Working within a conservative idiom, he devoted himself chiefly to dance settings. Several of his sons and grandsons likewise earned recognition as lutenists.
