Originating from Brazil, the short-lived heavy metal group Santuário—rendered as “Sanctuary” in Portuguese—comprised vocalist Julio Michaelis, guitarist Ricardo Michaelis, bassist Jorge Bastos, and drummer Alessandro Galvão. Taking shape in the early ’80s and drawing heavily on Iron Maiden’s epic approach, the quartet supplied two tracks to the 1985 anthology S.P. Metal II, a vital record of the flourishing local scene, before disappearing without further releases.
