Sara Leib surfaced in the opening years of the twenty-first century as an inventive scat vocalist full of promise. Piano studies and experiments with assorted other instruments marked her beginnings before she turned to singing. Participation in a school jazz choir supplied early experience, while home listening sessions found her replicating solos by horn players such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Benny Goodman, and Louis Armstrong. She also performed with the Grammy High Schools National Jazz Ensemble. Between 1999 and 2001 she enrolled at the Berklee School of Music and later received a bachelor of music degree from the New England Conservatory, where her teachers included the influential Dominique Eade along with Steve Lacy and Jerry Bergonzi. Following graduation she toured Japan, appeared with pianist Art Lande, and made the Los Angeles area her base. Studio work, music teaching, the creation of numerous original songs, and tours of South Africa and Guatemala have filled her schedule more recently, leading to the release of her debut recording, It's Not the Moon. Her central aim remains the wider acceptance of jazz among listeners of her own generation.
