Biography
Sarah Kramer, a trumpeter who also writes and sings her own material, crafts earthy folk-infused songs rooted in the jazz training she received at Bard College along with extensive experience supporting fellow performers. Born in West Orange, New Jersey, she took up both trumpet and guitar during her childhood before earning a Nesuhi Ertegun jazz scholarship to attend Bard. Outside of her academic pursuits there, she performed her original compositions in New York City cafés as well as in spots such as Woodstock, New York. Upon completion of her studies, she lived for eight years in New Orleans, where she explored an assortment of genres ranging from jazz through blues to rock while shaping her personal approach to pop as a singer-songwriter. She moved to Los Angeles in 2003, taking on studio musician roles even as she persisted in creating and playing her compositions. Her first album, Home, arrived in 2013 and included nine original tracks plus a rendition of soul legend Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready."
