Possessing a versatile vocal technique, Sarah Pillow navigates classical repertoire and jazz improvisation with equal facility. Her initial stage appearances included appearances at events such as Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, complementing her formal training received at New York’s Chautauqua Institution as well as the Oberlin Conservatory. Relocating to New York City allowed her to collaborate across diverse contexts, encompassing engagements alongside the New York Philharmonic, homages to John Cage, and performances at the Knitting Factory. A fascination with Baroque repertoire prompted a prolonged period in Europe, during which she produced multiple recordings alongside harpist Jan Walters. Together with Marc Wagnon she established Buckyball Records, issuing several projects on the imprint including the jazz standards collection Paper Cuts and An Afterthought, for which she supplied original lyrics to Wagnon’s jazz-fusion pieces.
