Biography
Awards including the American Library Association Award and the Parents' Choice Classic Award have recognized Sarah Pirtle for her cheerful folk compositions. Blending Navajo chants with Louisiana zydeco shapes the varied sonic textures of her appealing pieces, whose verses promote compassion, verbal resolution of disagreements, and gratitude for Mother Nature's many offerings. Percussionist Brain Melick supplied gourds, udu drums, rainsticks, and additional instruments that join the distinctive zydeco within her performances. Children age five and up are the intended audience for Magical Earth, the 1998 Gentle Wind album that includes the tracks "Mother Earth," "Journey Dance," and "Talk It Out." The Gentle Wind label also issued her recording Two Hands Hold the Earth.
