The experimental folk ensemble Savaging Spires, headquartered in London, surfaced around 2011 through the appearance of its self-titled album. Its style gravitated toward hazy, unstructured pastoral folk laced with psychedelic overtones, weaving crudely captured tracks together with plentiful ambient textures into ethereal auditory journeys. The collective cultivated a deliberately veiled identity, releasing almost no details about its participants or their backgrounds via online platforms. Even with such elusive habits, the group issued a substantial body of fresh recordings. Shortly after the debut, an assortment of cassette and 7-inch titles surfaced, followed in 2013 by National Supper Session, which the musicians captured in one continuous take while gathered around a single microphone. The third album, We Should Be Dead Together, emerged in 2014 with noticeably fuller production yet retained its elusive character.
