Biography
Saw Loser formed in 2005 as a Singapore-based punk-pop group whose members hail from several countries and whose recordings have found an especially strong audience in Japan. The lineup includes vocalist Sam Cooper, an Australian native, guitarist Masashi Kimura from Japan, American-born bassist Jimmy Tuppen, and Australian drummer Matt Copper. Their first recordings appeared in 2006 via an independently issued, self-titled EP; later that year the band signed with Universal Music Singapore and issued its debut full-length album, Long Distance Phone Calls, which received a Japanese release the following year. The album tracks “Big Shot” and “Mr. Know It All” received extensive airplay on MTV Asia. Much of 2007 was spent on the road across Asia, where Saw Loser supported U.S. acts such as Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, and Sum 41. The band’s second album, Hits Hit the Fans, followed in 2008 and consisted entirely of punk-pop covers.
