Sax Gordon

Sax Gordon, whose honking jump blues approach to jazz defined his saxophone playing, shared stages and sessions with many established performers while also issuing his own recordings. Born Gordon Beadle, the Boston-based artist appeared on albums by Champion Jack Dupree, Luther "Guitar Jr" Johnson, Duke Robillard, and additional artists across the 1990s. Bullseye Blues issued his debut solo album, Have Horn Will Travel, in 1998; the follow-up, You Knock Me Out, arrived in 2000. On those solo projects Gordon steers his band through an assortment of jazz and blues hybrids. He authors most of the original material yet also chooses a handful of covers for each release. W.C. Handy Award nominations reached him in 2001 and again in 2002.
