Biography
Though nominally a pop-punk outfit, the Boston-based quintet Say When incorporate unapologetic hard rock and nu metal elements, as various members cite Buckcherry, Led Zeppelin, and System of a Down among their influences. Singer Maxwell Latif and Ukraine-born guitarist Zack Starikov launched Say When in Boston during 2002, initially operating as the typical cover band found in college-town bars. Once Latif and Starikov shifted from standard covers toward original songs, the group’s roster locked into its present form with the addition of second guitarist John Zaremba, bassist Mike Marvuglio, and drummer Mark McCarthy. A self-released demo EP drew local media attention along with live bookings, after which Say When issued their debut full-length album, I'm with the Band, in 2006.
