Emerging amid the height of the Bay Area punk movement, the Southern California outfit Schleprock took shape in 1989 when vocalist Doug Caine, also known as Doug Dagger, joined forces with guitarist Jeff Graham. Drummer Ernie Berru and guitarist Sean Romin rounded out the initial roster the following year. The group issued several 7" singles on Nemesis in 1991, including "Do It All" and "Long Time Ago," while maintaining a relentless schedule of shows throughout North America. Amid the ascendance of grunge, Schleprock delivered Propeller on Dr. Strange in 1994, steadily expanding their reputation. Bassist Dean Wilson joined in 1995 as the band's intense punk edge continued to sharpen. Warner Bros. signed them in 1996, leading to the release of (America's) Dirty Little Secret before the year closed, an album that retained Schleprock's raw, abrasive punk character. Long Time Ago appeared on Cool Guy in 1997. The group effectively disbanded that same year, after which Caine and Berru launched the revivalist punk project the Generators in L.A. The original Schleprock lineup reconvened in 2005 for select performances in support of the rarities and unreleased collection Learning to Fall.
