Biography
Schooner originated in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, when singer/songwriter and guitarist Reid Johnson joined forces with bassist Tripp Cox. Johnson's sister Kathryn Johnson, who played keyboards and sang, came aboard with drummer Billy Alphin before the first recording sessions took place in March 2004. Those sessions produced the debut album You Forget About Your Heart on Pox World Empire, an effort the band backed with East Coast tours. Live dates continued through 2005 and 2006 as the group developed additional material, and during this period Megan Culton joined as the fifth member on cello, guitar, and backing vocals. The EPs 3x4 and Rocky P both surfaced in 2006. A signing with 54º 40' or Fight! Records followed in early 2007, resulting in the August 21 release of the second full-length album Hold on Too Tight.
